Artist Statement

I am a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Nigeria, creating for over ten years. For me, art is my safe haven, a quiet space where the weight of the world softens and I can simply exist.

My work is an attempt to hold space, for myself and for others, and to create something quiet, honest, and deeply human.

My work centers on creating moments of stillness, intimacy, and emotional refuge. I am drawn to the idea of a safe haven, a space where people can pause, breathe, and feel held, even if just for a moment. In a world that often feels fast and overwhelming, I see my work as an offering of rest.

Visually, my practice leans into minimal, expressive forms influenced by abstraction and cubism, allowing emotion to take precedence over detail. My process is rooted in observation, experimentation, and a continuous search for simplicity that carries meaning.

Process

01

Where It Begins

Every piece starts with a feeling. Something quiet, something I can't ignore. I don't force it, I sit with it and let it take shape in its own time.

02

Staying With It

Sketch, illustrate, adjust, sometimes starting over. It's less about getting it right, more about letting it feel right.

03

Letting It Become

I stop when the piece feels like a place. A space that holds calm, that you can step into and rest in. That's when I know it's done.

04

Research and Thinking

Beyond making art, my practice is driven by questions — how art travels across contexts, how it can function as a form of emotional and mental support, and what it means to navigate the world as an artist.

Active Inquiry

Art as Mental Health Infrastructure

My work with I.N.E.M.S raised questions I am still sitting with: what happens when art is the primary language for mental health communication in communities where therapy is inaccessible? I am exploring how illustration and community art can function as grassroots mental health infrastructure across African cities.

Digital Ownership and Cultural Memory

Exhibiting my first NFT The Custodian at Art Basel Miami in 2021 shifted the way I think about digital presence and ownership. I'm interested in what it means to create work that is not only seen, but also held, owned, and remembered on our own terms.

Areas of Exploration

On Rest, Stillness, and Softness

My work is built around creating spaces of rest and quiet reflection. I am drawn to the idea that stillness can challenge the fast-paced, performance-driven systems we live in. I want to explore how art can offer an alternative.
